Props for the production

For the production I wont need to use many props as the atmosphere and the psychological state of the girl are what will give the majority of the effect to the thriller.

- I will take the label off of it -
I will need to use a grand looking box to put the shoes at the start for when the girl first puts them on. The box should have a ribbon so that the opening of it can be quite exaggerated to show her excitement, and to emphasise the importance of the shoes. I have a box that would be perfect for this, and it is also red and white in colour which ties in with the connotations of the red shoes and also the white is the purity and innocence that the girl had at the start.

Outside of the Hut I want to place an axe of some kind with fake blood on it, with a pair of black leather gloves - just propped up against the door. This is because it will get the audience asking questions about who is inside, what they do and why the girl is there, (this is when the film will cut). The person inside the hut is an executioner and the in the story of the red shoes Karen asks the executioner to cut off her possessive feet, so having the axe at the door gives a hint to the rest of the narrative and makes the audience weary of what is going to happen.

Inside the Hut all of the lights will be off so that you cannot see inside the window clearly, this will allow the audience to ask questions and will create mystery - key to thriller films.
The prop that I will be using in this is candles, inside the hut; on the windowsill and the counter there will be lit candles. - the candles will create a dim light which will make the audience feel instantly attracted to the inside of the building and they will want to know who and what is inside and why the girl is there. The audience will also be thinking of the reasons why this person is in candlelight and has not got electrical light on.

At the hut there will be marionettes / marionettes heads hanging outside and around it, the marionettes are quite creepy and aren't the traditional type of doll as they are made of bones and everything is handmade and naturally died. The Dolls will are just an extra eerie effect to set the scene at the hut. Having the dolls there is very important to me as my mum makes them. The full doll is actually based on the story of the Red shoes which gave me the idea to base the thriller on.

At Location 1, there will be different props from the emporium such as old clocks and oil cans etc just to express the kind of jumbled up effect that psychological thrillers have. They will also make the location look older and less cared for which sets the tone for the film. I'm also intending to use a pile of leaves at the location, as part of the title sequence.
