Audience Research: Planning

TARGETING AN AUDIENCE
Movie companies aim their films and artists towards different target audiences. They carry out research in order to help them find out what different people want to see and how they should market their films and other promotional materials.

HOW DO THEY DO IT?
·         Surveys
·         Polls
·         Focus groups
·         Questionnaires
·         Social networking
·         Blogs

They use blogs and social networks to share ideas, films and images so that they can gain feedback.

Researchers set up test screenings so that they can gauge what reactions the audience gives to their film. For my piece of work I can’t exactly do this but we can get some ideas and get peoples initial reactions by showing people my plans and seeing what they think to them. It is extremely important to keep getting regular feedback.

When an audience consumes a product they bring many different things with them, all of these are extremely important to think about when creating something for an audience:
·         Upbringing
·         Lifestyle
·         Culture
·         Attitudes
·         Emotions
·         Knowledge
·         Education
·         Expectation

One of the things that I  aim the most to look at is their expectations, as that will help along with the production because I need to think about what the audience will expect from what I am creating.

  1. Well done on the posts so far. You have analysed in detail and showed a good understanding of the thriller genre. Continue to post all details on your blog and make sure that everything you do relates to your own product and how it will inform certain details.
